How to use this empathy sorting activity?

Option AFor younger students or students not yet reading, this sorting activity can be used to stimulate small group discussions or whole group discussions. Does the person in the scenario show empathy? Or ”Does not show empathy?”

Use the discussion questions to help stimulate discussions around each scenario.

When looking at the scenarios that do not show empathy, add the 3rd Card: “What can you say or do to show more empathy?”

This will extend your students’ thinking and encourage them to delve deeper into the discussion around empathy.

Option B: For students already reading, these could be a classroom center activity or a writing prompt.
